I was working at a weekly newspaper in Rockland County, N.Y., when the infamous Brink’s robbery unfolded nearly a half-century ago. The tragedy that shocked the community is still commemorated on Oct. 20 every year.
The story came somewhat full circle in April 2026 when I ran into Judith Clark, a getaway driver convicted in that fatal heist, while attending a musical production at Bedford Hills women’s prison. She was paroled in 2019 after serving nearly four decades in Bedford Hills.
Then came the publication of the novel “The Hill,” her daughter Harriet’s fictional imagining of her mother’s crime and incarceration. The real story of her mother’s life in prison and afterward come together in my article published in The Recorder.
