RIP Brooks Arthur, 914 Sound Studios hitmaking wizard

Brooks Arthur knew a hit song when he heard one. From 1960s classics like My Boyfriend’s Back to Janis Ian’s At Seventeen, to Springsteen’s Born to Run, Brooks’ unerring ear helped shape their sound.

I interviewed this kind, humble and talented gentleman a handful of times in the past few years, and was proud to call him a friend. Here’s my tribute to Brooks, who died recently.

      1. Thanks … did you notice he lived in Rancho Mirage? BTW, Steve Fleischner is his nephew (by marriage I believe). When Brooks came to Rockland for the dedication of the historic plaque, Steve drove him there from the airport.
