‘In our hearts, these students will remain forever young’

This plaque originally placed in 1972 is being replaced by a new memorial to the five boys who died in the March 24, 1972, bus crash.

I had a paper route delivering The Journal-News back in 1972. When I got home from school the afternoon of March 24 and ripped the wrapper off the bundle of newspapers in my driveway, the images from that morning horrified me. Like so many others, I’ve never forgotten that day.

Here’s an article I wrote for The Journal News/lohud that recounts that tragic day and its aftermath.
